Fisheries

We monitor fisheries resources in marine and estuarine environments using standard and non-extractive methods and provide desktop services (e.g., Fisheries Monitoring Plans, COP sections, monitoring reports) to a diverse clientele. Our extensive experience in fisheries planning, permitting, sampling, and analysis supports our clients through all phases of their project needs.

Overview

Our fisheries team is committed to achieving project objectives in a sustainable and efficient manner by using non-extractive monitoring methods where possible and troubleshooting permitting bottlenecks that can delay projects. We apply our understanding of fish habitat use to scoping opportunities for coexistence and collaboration among multiple marine-fisheries users.

Expertise Description

Balancing ocean uses with the preservation of fishery resources

INSPIRE is a pioneer in conducting monitoring surveys that partner with commercial fishermen, limit fish mortality by using video, eDNA, and/or acoustic telemetry, and provide scientifically defensible results. Our robust statistical analyses yield results and peer-reviewed publications that inform evidence-based decision-making for both fisheries management and offshore wind farm development.

INSPIRE scientists are experienced at designing offshore wind farm fisheries monitoring plans and ushering them through the regulatory process. Our scientists engage commercial and recreational fishery representatives and Tribal communities to understand concerns and minimize project impacts, enlisting their knowledge, experience, and resources (e.g. vessels and crew) in the process.
