Data Analytics and Management

Providing high quality and understandable data for our clients and end-users is the backbone of our business. Our data science team offers foundational services in data management, data delivery and metadata, and robust analytics to optimize survey designs and develop machine learning models.

Our data team sets high standards for data quality and pride ourselves on providing well organized, easy to use and understandable data products.

We approach each project and dataset with a critical eye to match the clients’ management, regulatory, or development needs with scientific questions and methodologies.

Drawing on experience across regions and data delivery formats, we mine resources across public, academic, and gray literature data sources. We take nothing at face value and review metadata and research methodologies for every data source.

Related Projects

US EPA Dredged Material Monitoring

Our data scientists worked closely with representatives from the U.S. the Environmental Protection Agency to develop an intuitive database for EPA to utilize in tracking dredging projects and beneficial use applications. This database combined two previously separate work streams to improve management of dredged sediment and coastal resources.

Related Projects

Regional Wildlife Science Collaborative Regional Sediment Mapping

We developed a regional sediment distribution model using publicly available data and machine learning algorithms. This pilot project was conducted in collaboration with the Regional Wildlife Science Collaborative and included input from regional experts, as well as recommendations for data sharing and model improvement in the future. This study culminated in a peer-reviewed manuscript: Mapping seafloor sediment distributions using public geospatial data and machine learning to support regional offshore renewable energy development (Capizzano et al. 2024).

Related Projects

Offshore Wind Sediment-borne Vibrations

INSPIRE is engaging with partners across academia, industry, and government to simulate the generation and propagation of sediment-borne waves generated by offshore pile driving operations and investigate their impacts on benthic ecosystems.
Related Projects

Cape Holland Vibroacoustic Modelling

INSPIRE is working with Cape Holland to develop simulations of the sound field resulting from vibratory pile installation and investigate the extent of noise-induced behavioral responses in marine mammals compared to impact-hammer pile installation.
